Skye Totham, Senior Management Accountant at Kano.
What is your story? How did you get to Kano?
My British partner and I met in Sydney a few years ago and thought it was time we gave this side of the world a spin, so we moved to London in late 2019 to find new adventures and opportunities. We love the great outdoors so we’re itching to get out hiking again once the lockdown lifts.
I was lucky enough to land at Kano after contracting as a Chartered Accountant. My background is in business advisory working on outsourced finance roles, so at Kano, it has been extremely rewarding to be “inside” the business and a part of a commercial team and vision that I feel passionate about.
What do you think it takes for someone to work at Kano?
Agility! Every day is different, every challenge is new but that is what makes the work special. It is a very supportive environment so I feel very lucky to be a part of this team.
Tell us one thing you do every day in your job? Every week? And then every month?
Everyday — Check our bank accounts.
Every week — Update our cash flow model.
Every month — Prepare our management accounts and commentary which are sent to our shareholders.
What is the most fun part of your job?
The interesting people and ideas I work with. Helping stakeholders make sense of the number jargon.
What do you see the future looking like for Kano?
I think Kano is a business that cares and believes in the creativity of the next generation and the positive impact technology has on our lives. To see these creative ideas come to life and make a positive difference is very compelling.
